The Metropolitan Environmental Commission (CAMe) has activated Phase I of Environmental Contingency for ozone in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM), which includes Mexico City (CDMX) and the State of Mexico (Edomex). The decision was made because a maximum ozone concentration of 155 ppb was recorded at the Gustavo A Madero station.
According to CAMe, various measures have been adopted with the aim of reducing pollutant emissions and improving air quality in the area. One of the actions implemented is the "Hoy No Circula" program, which establishes circulation restrictions for different types of vehicles in CDMX and Edomex.
On Wednesday, March 19, private vehicles with holograms 1 and 2, whose last digit of the license plate is 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9, must suspend their circulation from 05:00 to 22:00 hours. Likewise, L.P. gas delivery units with a license plate ending in an odd number will have to suspend 50% of their fleet.
Local or federal cargo vehicles must stop circulating from 6:00 to 10:00 hours, except those participating in the CDMX or Edomex Self-Regulation Program. Taxis with holograms 00, 0, 1, or 2 that must refrain from circulating will do so between 10:00 and 22:00 hours.
CAMe is responsible for notifying the public about updates on the environmental contingency and other issues related to the environment. Information regarding whether Phase I of the contingency will be lifted is expected on Wednesday, March 19, in the usual communications at 10:00, 15:00, and 20:00 hours.
